On top of thousands of protesters, a bad cold and sore feet from documenting the whole event Monday, here are some pics from Madison. This is the first time I got to get out in the real world and shoot something of real significance. I am hoping something big happens this weekend for I will be down there with bells on. Well not literally, but I am sure I will find someone with them on. Wisconsin has become the center of the country these past few weeks with the Pack winning the Super Bowl (unfortunately I missed the after party at Lambeau) and now this. As a journalist I don't want to miss out!
I was at the Tap Haus in Kaukauna last night taking photos of local band Boxkar for Appletonbars.com. I was limited to shooting them with a 50mm f/1.8 and no flash but I managed to get a few decent shots due to the great lighting. It will be about a week before I start taking daily photos for this blog, but whenever I can I will post something up over this next week starting with these shots.
Wow...I just realized I forgot all about this blog site. My bad memory tends to get the better of me when $5,000 in photo gear that I intended to use to complete this site was stolen from the trunk of my car the day after I started it. Funny thing is that even though this demoralized me a lot initially, in the end it might have been the best thing to happen to me because it made me appreciate photography even more. I realize now that photography is what I am meant to do so here I am starting over. I have a new Nikon D700 body and in a few days I will have new flash and 24-70mm lens. Time to start from day one and get freaky with my photography. Lesson learned here is not to trust anyone, especially myself because I never had any of my gear insured. I still can't insure it now since I spent every dime replacing my gear and will now be going hungry for a few months. But what is it that makes a mediocre photographer great? Sometimes it is being hungry and now is my time to shine.
